In November 2017, the Guelph Police Service High Enforcement Action Team (H.E.A.T.) initiated an investigation into a break and enter into storage lockers on Watson Parkway. Locks were cut from, approximately, 70 lockers and several items removed. The suspects in the incident were apparently scared off by residents of the apartment as some of the items taken were left behind and recovered.
Also in November, H.E.A.T. investigated an attempt break and enter into two Marilyn Drive residential buildings. Investigation linked the incidents on Marilyn Drive to the incident on Watson Parkway. Investigation also lead to the identification of the suspects in these incidents.
Five male suspects were identified as being involved in these incidents, four adults and one youth. The adults, all Guelph males, are 25 year old James Ironside, 24 year old Tyler Riediger, 25 year old Jake Malott and 25 year old Benn Witteveen. Police will not be releasing any information on the male youth arrested.
The following is a breakdown of the charges:
For the Watson Parkway incident, all five males were charged jointly for conspiracy to commit break and enter, break and enter, possession of break and enter instruments and disguise with intent. Tyler Riediger was further charged with breach of probation and Jake Malott was further charged with two counts of breach of probation.
For the Marilyn Drive incidents, all five males were charged with conspiracy to commit break and enter, attempt break and enter and break and enter. Tyler Riediger was further charged with possession of break and enter instruments, disguise with intent and breach of probation. Jake Malott was further charged with two counts of breaching his probation order. Ben Witteveen was further charged with two counts of breaching his probation order.
All males were arrested and/or charged in the second week of January, with the exception of Ben Witteveen, who was charged on January 23, 2018. All charged adults have court dates in February 2018.
