The Charges keep coming...

In November 2017, the Guelph Police Service High Enforcement Action Team (H.E.A.T.) initiated an investigation into a break and enter into storage lockers on Watson Parkway. Locks were cut from, approximately, 70 lockers and several items removed. The suspects in the incident were apparently scared off by residents of the apartment as some of the items taken were left behind and recovered.
Also in November, H.E.A.T. investigated an attempt break and enter into two Marilyn Drive residential buildings. Investigation linked the incidents on Marilyn Drive to the incident on Watson Parkway. Investigation also lead to the identification of the suspects in these incidents.
Five male suspects were identified as being involved in these incidents, four adults and one youth. The adults, all Guelph males, are 25 year old James Ironside, 24 year old Tyler Riediger, 25 year old Jake Malott and 25 year old Benn Witteveen. Police will not be releasing any information on the male youth arrested.
The following is a breakdown of the charges:
For the Watson Parkway incident, all five males were charged jointly for conspiracy to commit break and enter, break and enter, possession of break and enter instruments and disguise with intent. Tyler Riediger was further charged with breach of probation and Jake Malott was further charged with two counts of breach of probation.
For the Marilyn Drive incidents, all five males were charged with conspiracy to commit break and enter, attempt break and enter and break and enter. Tyler Riediger was further charged with possession of break and enter instruments, disguise with intent and breach of probation. Jake Malott was further charged with two counts of breaching his probation order. Ben Witteveen was further charged with two counts of breaching his probation order.
All males were arrested and/or charged in the second week of January, with the exception of Ben Witteveen, who was charged on January 23, 2018. All charged adults have court dates in February 2018.

APARTMENT A TENANT EVICTED!

Well, its been a crazy past year but the tenant of apartment A was finally evicted!

Police have been coming through the apartment at various times through the day and night looking for anyone trespassing but it has been quiet for a week.

Wyndham House provides their clients housing and pays the landlord to house their clients.

This morning at 9am, representatives of Wyndham House started the cleanup process of the apartment. It took them 4 hours and a crew of 4 women and at least 4 men with several trucks.

This pile was just the beginning. It grew to cover most of the driveway

This pile of stolen bikes and parts were removed from apartment A along with more stolen bike parts

If you had any doubts as to a stolen bike ring being operated out of this apartment, please have a look closely. This a sample of what was taken out by Wydham House Representatives.

I'm sure had they left the entire pile of stuff outside, you likely would have found some of your property here. There were tools, tool boxes, lawn ornaments and tons of other items. Police were contacted but none showed up to look at the stolen goods.

Speaking with a rep from Wyndham house, I asked if they will continue supplying clients to the landlord of 58 Derry St. Bob Axtmann and they said that they are not continuing the relationship but that they are taking care of the cleanup of the apartment.

It's sad to think that money is being donated to Wyndham House and this is what some of the money is going to fund. To my knowledge the tenant has been moved to another location and is currently not been charged with anything.

The Landlord Responds...

Dear Mr. Axtmann: I'm a homeowner who lives in the area of 58 Derry, a property I've been informed you own, and am writing on behalf of several residents who have become increasingly concerned about the aberrant, possibly criminal behaviour of one or more of your tenants. As a responsible landlord, I'm sure you can understand why those of us with young children would object to loud screaming matches in the street, reports of criminal behaviour involving drugs and bike thefts and a rash of recent car and other break-ins in this area that have been traced back by numerous people to the tenants on your property. We've lived here 10 years, and until a year ago, never had an issue with any of your renters, all of whom respected the neighbourhood and made an effort to fit in. The current situation, however, is unsustainable, unacceptable and frightening to small children and I hope you will take action to set things right (ie..eviction, not renewing lease, etc). You should know that residents in this area are planning a meeting involving police and city counsellors to devise an action plan to deal with this situation. best, Joel

7:36amRobert Axtmann accepted your request.10:25am
I understand your concern. I am aware of several of your concerns and am doing doing everything on my power to deal with them. Due to the neigbourr good you live in i am having a difficult time believing all your accusations. If their are break ins and thefts those are issues to be dealt with by the police not a resident. I will always cooperate with the police. In case you weren't aware there is a drug problem in guelph as indicated by the needles and syringes found around the city but especially in the downtown area. I would suggest you contact the police as opposed too me when you have an issue. I will do everything within the law to corect the problem but that is as much as I can do. I have other tenants within the building and have only received three complaints which I have dealt with. I will be contacting guelph police to follow up on all the complaints which you and others have filed to see if any are actionable

Serious Incident At 58 Derry St Apartment A

5am this morning a car (dark grey 2-door Infinity) was heard squealing it 's tires and racing around Derry St. (See Video Below). This vehicle driver and passenger went to 58 Derry St at 5am  and there was some type of incident at this location.

From 5am until 5:20am two males arrive 58 Derry St apartment A and are seen entering and leaving the apartment.

From 5:20am until 8:20am the door to the apartment  left wide open.

Police (2 cruisers) arrive at 8:20am and enter inside the apartment. One Police Officer has an automatic weapon with him. I've never seen Guelph Police respond to this address with an automatic weapon in display and on their person.

At 8:30am one male that does not live there leaves the apartment on his own.

Police leave at 8:40am

About 9:30am Police return to 58 Derry St and speak with tenant outside on the street. It appears he was attacked/robbed by his friend and the tenant is asking police to arrest the guy.

The irony...

Edited-Wanted to be clear that Police had the automatic weapon and not anyone at the property. What this likely means is that the response was serious enough that Police needed to have this type of weapon at the ready.

She's gone!

It appears as though the female tenant of Apartment A has indeed left the apartment for an indefinite amount of time. Her bags were packed and she was picked up this morning.

According to Police recently, she was going away for a 3 month rehab stint.

It will be calmer for a while now around the neighborhood but it will remain to be seen if the situation in our area gets better or worse.

Police at Apartment A Yet Again

Sunday November 5th 10pm

They were at it again with the screaming and yelling and smashing things.  Police showed up and spoke with the tenants of Apartment A and promptly left. Police said that she informed them that she is going away to rehab for 3 months. This will stop the domestic situations for a while but in past when she leaves, he ramps up his bike chop shop in the apartment and his friends constantly bring in the stolen bikes and break them down for parts.

The apartment door has been off its hinges for a few days now. Police said that it is because this apartment was broken into yet again.

Police will not give them a ticket for noise or do much as I was told that they have no money to pay for the ticket and simply won't pay it. They have no vehicle so their licence being suspended would do nothing. They said "It isn't worth our time but just keep calling us."
