
Councillor James Gordon
James Gordon was elected a member of Guelph City Council representing Ward 2 in 2014.
In his long career in the arts, James has earned an international reputation as a playwright, songwriter, record producer, music educator and performer. He owns the Pipe Street Recording Studio and is a former downtown restaurant owner. He has recorded 40 albums of his own original music and has toured the world with his work that often deals with social justice, environmental, and heritage themes.
As an advocate and community builder in Guelph, he was the first president of the Guelph Civic League, the first Artistic Director of the Hillside Festival, the co-founder of the Wellington Water Watchers and the Guelph Arts Platform, and the founding chair of the Family Mental Health Network.
He was given the Mayor’s Award for community service in 2008, and he is a member of the Guelph Youth Music Centre’s Wall of Fame for his ongoing work as a creative arts educator.
