The Landlord Responds...

Dear Mr. Axtmann: I'm a homeowner who lives in the area of 58 Derry, a property I've been informed you own, and am writing on behalf of several residents who have become increasingly concerned about the aberrant, possibly criminal behaviour of one or more of your tenants. As a responsible landlord, I'm sure you can understand why those of us with young children would object to loud screaming matches in the street, reports of criminal behaviour involving drugs and bike thefts and a rash of recent car and other break-ins in this area that have been traced back by numerous people to the tenants on your property. We've lived here 10 years, and until a year ago, never had an issue with any of your renters, all of whom respected the neighbourhood and made an effort to fit in. The current situation, however, is unsustainable, unacceptable and frightening to small children and I hope you will take action to set things right (ie..eviction, not renewing lease, etc). You should know that residents in this area are planning a meeting involving police and city counsellors to devise an action plan to deal with this situation. best, Joel

I understand your concern. I am aware of several of your concerns and am doing doing everything on my power to deal with them. Due to the neigbourr good you live in i am having a difficult time believing all your accusations. If their are break ins and thefts those are issues to be dealt with by the police not a resident. I will always cooperate with the police. In case you weren't aware there is a drug problem in guelph as indicated by the needles and syringes found around the city but especially in the downtown area. I would suggest you contact the police as opposed too me when you have an issue. I will do everything within the law to corect the problem but that is as much as I can do. I have other tenants within the building and have only received three complaints which I have dealt with. I will be contacting guelph police to follow up on all the complaints which you and others have filed to see if any are actionable
